Well guys, I have a perfectly good running Ford 1210, with 1000hrs. on it, with a front loader and Woods belly mower. I just happened to stop at the local New Holland dealer, which my wife has forbidden me to do, and check out a TC18 sitting on the lot. The dealer hit me with a price of around $17,000, with a 60" belly mower and front loader. First of all, is that the price I should be expecting for the TC18? Second, what is the 1210 worth with the attachments? Third, is it worth the extra cash to move into the TC18? Is it basically the same tractor as the 1210 with updated sheetmetal?

Eric, can't answer any of your specific questions as to the value of those tractors but I did want to make a comment or two. If I were you, I would be asking myself what advantages will the TC18 provide me with over the 1210 that you currently own? If they are not significant enough to justify the extra money, then I would be inclined to stay with the older tractor. If the 1210 is giving you problems, then that is a good reason to consider new especially if the dealer gives great service. Sounds like your 1210 runs just fine, though. The TC18 obviously will give you some more bells and whistles, and shiny new sheet metal, but is that worth it? If either of those is enough to make you put up with your wife grumbling for spending X dollars on something you really might not need, then by all means go get yourself one!! Maybe it's just me, but I like to be able to justify buying something new (that costs more than a few hundred dollars) rather than buying it just because I want it. On the other hand, buying it will help keep the economy going!! Good luck! ....

Seems to me that one of the great things about compact tractors is their durability.Compared to a car or a washing machine, we can expect our tractors to run faithfully for 20, 30, maybe 40 years with care. I for one appreciate the patina of a well used and well cared for piece of equipment, be it a hammer or a tractor. I look forward to growing old with my tractor, and some day reflecting on the work we accomplished together. Maybe even give it to my son someday ( due in february, but the sonogram says he is all boy!) Maybe I am a little sentimental over a piece of metal and rubber, but these compacts are one of the few things still made to be as good as they can be( regerdless of the brand), and I think we should respect and appreciate that. I say stay with the old, care for it ( her???), and repay the hard work it has done for you.Paul ....

Eric,I didn't have the luxury of decided to trade up or not. My decision was buy used or buy new. I decided to buy new. I took delivery of a TC18 in July. 60" rear discharge belly mower, loader w/ 54" bucket, filled turf tires. All for $14,400. I have about 25 hours on it now. I love it. I may not have 'needed' something this large, but it has saved me a great deal of time and back aches already.Good luck w/ your decision. ....

I truely appreciate the different philosophies of compact tractor ownership. I am a mildly frugal person that needs a pretty good reason before I buy anything. I haven't heard any definitive reasons for why I should buy the TC18. I have to admit that power steering, a front end loader that is easy to remove, and a mower that is not a afterthought, make a hard sell that is hard to ignore.Where does 1000 hrs fall on the lifespan of a compact desiel engine? Do hydrostatic transmissions ever have bad stuff happen to them after so many hours? Does this stuff last forever if maintained properly? This are the things I am trying to base my decision on. ....

I have recently had a chance to look at several compacts with 1000 to 4000 hours on them. They all seemed to be running just fine. One had the headgasket replaced and the others were unopened. The one with 1000 hours was clearly the worst of the lot. I now consider that 1000 hours is a lot for a rental machine, and very little for a single-owner machine. The 1210 is a bulletproof tractor and real handy as well. What's wrong with keeping it and adding a newer one as well? They don't depreciate much. The 1210 will be worth as much 3 years from now as it is today. Roger Loving ....

The only problem I see with the TC18 is the price. That is an awfully high price for such a small tractor. I priced some new tractors back in the spring and all the tractors priced were 4wd, shuttle shift models, with front loaders. You can adjust for a belly mower. I would shop around some. You already have a tractor so you can afford to wait and find a better deal. ....

Well we took delivery on our TC18 in Feb. It came with a 60" Midmount Rear discharge multching mower and 5 ft rear blade. Tractor is loaded with 4 wheel drive and hydrostatic drive. Walked away with it for 11,900. Although it took us about 6 months to get it. ....
